Main Street Grille and Brewing Company in Garretsville, Ohio

is little bit of a drive if you’re going there from Akron but very worth the mileage; particularly when, every so often, you discover a cask of their beer sitting on the back counter. The food is good (and for those sitting at the bar) everye once in awhile you get a chance to converse with the chef when he wanders in for a beverage.

The first time I visited the owners, Pete and Peggy Kepich, were on site making sure that their clientele was well served. Both are happy to discuss the establishment with guests if it doesn’t interfere with making sure staff, food and beer keep moving. They’re justifiably proud of their award winning beers which include Edelweizen, Main Street Joe and ’35 Extra Stout. Lean back and look upstairs for a glimpse of the brewery (on one of my visits, Pete allowed how his brewmaster had asked him to leave the sound system tuned to classic rock after the restaurant closed, seems the beer fermenting upstairs particularly liked that era) – and be sure to take home of a growler full of your favorite.

Once you’ve finished your meal and pints, check out the rushing waters behind the building.

Take the time to walk along the wood planked sidewalk that runs along the backs of the storefronts along Garretsville’s Main Street. Stroll down the sidewalks of Garretsville, too, if only for this delighfully named barber shop…
